President of the Dordogne Ladies Club International - Kathy John
I have lived in Beaumont-du-Périgord for almost five years since my husband retired, although we have owned a house just outside the village since 2002. Philip and I both worked in education (I was a French teacher) and were lucky enough to live in such beautiful places as Malvern, the Isle of Man and Norfolk.
Since first going on an exchange visit when I was 16, I have always loved France, its people, culture, countryside and way of life and we thoroughly enjoy living here. I am still working (mostly in the summer) since I have a small business. In my spare time enjoy gardening, walking, crosswords, reading, meeting friends and getting together with my family. I have four children, three of whom live in London and one on the Isle of Man, and four grandchildren. I am happiest of all when they visit us here!
I joined the committee of the DLCI about two years ago and initially helped with the organisation of events, but have been President since June 2019. It is a role I really enjoy, giving me the opportunity to meet lots of our members and work with a dedicated and enthusiastic committee.
Whats my favourite DLCI activity? I enjoy all our events – walks, lunches, talks, Autumn fair – and the committee and I are constantly looking to vary our programme as much as possible to involve as many of our members as we can.
My favourite movie is – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
What do I wish for?
In terms of the environment, that things don’t go back to the way they were before CV and the positive benefits – clean air, less pollution, flourishing wildlife etc - continue to advance.
